There’s plenty of excitement building over the ‘Super Saturday’ race card at Flemington this weekend including the season’s best sprinters facing off in the 2017 Newmarket Handicap, betting tips and the latest odds found right here.

All thirteen original final acceptors are still in the mix for the $1.25 million Group 1 Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) run down the famous Flemington straight as Race 7 at 3:55pm (AEDT).
Sitting top of the latest Newmarket Handicap betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au – who are offering Enhanced Newmarket Handicap odds on the entire field (T&Cs apply / Max Bet $100) – at $3.70 for the win is the Bryce Heys-trained Spieth.
A luckless second at the track and distance in the Darley Classic in the spring, the consistent Thorn Park four-year-old was also runner-up first-up in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) after being held up for a run.
He gets the chance to atone and break through with an elite level success here drawn the rails, which hasn’t produced a Newmarket Handicap winner since Shaftesbury Avenue (1991).
The main dangers to Spieth finally getting the Flemington Group 1 win are the Mick Price-trained colt Extreme Choice ($5) from the outside barrier and fellow three-year-old Star Turn ($6.50) coming off a third in the Lightning Stakes.
Earlier in the week we published our comprehensive 2017 Newmarket Handicap Form Guide & Betting Preview with tips based on the facts and stats uncovered there detailed below.
1st
#4 Sheidel ($7.50)
Money is coming in for this Holy Roman Emperor mare prepared by the flying Lindsay Park team. She has been backed in from double figures and that money trail looks worth following. She is a gun over 1200m (8-4-2-0) and comes off the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) win a fortnight ago. First-up there, will be fitter second-up and even better over this distance. Chasing the double Lankan Rupee (2014) did a few years back and has the second best Win Rate of the field (56%).
2nd
#6 Extreme Choice ($5)
Three-year-olds have a tidy recent record in the race and Extreme Choice is a dual Group 1 winner including a Moir Stakes success in open-age company already. He was originally to be saved for the William Reid Stakes, but has taken stablemate Flying Artie’s place in this after his setback. Has the Magic Man aboard and he’ll be out to break a hoodoo from out in barrier 13 – one of only two barriers not to have produced a winner in over 30 years. Oakleigh Plate third last start and that’s the form we’re tipping to stack-up here.
3rd
#1 Terravista ($12)
Continually underrated sprinter from the stables of Joe Pride. Posted another Group 1 first-up in the Lightning Stakes and even with top weight here (57kg), comes back from 58.5kg so seems okay weight-wide. Drawn out in 12, but down the straight that shouldn’t be a real issue. Loves the track (6-2-2-2) and is yet to finish out of the money here. Also has the top 1200m record (12-5-0-3) of the field. Could prove the value in an upset.
